14 Jan 2004, wall I painted in Harare, Zimbabwe. This was painted on the balcony of the National Gallery. I showed the director what I planned on painting and she asked me if I could paint something ‘more African’ but I said if an African painter was painting in Ireland they wouldn’t be asked to paint something more Irish.
